In honor of Valentine’s day, the world’s most romantic music video.
Early sketch of something I will probably never finish.
So during Christmas eve tonight we had family over and late in the evening I started doodling on the paper tablecloth. After drawing a ninja turtle I finally drew a picture of Walter White. My cousin added the text next to the picture for more dramatic effect. This was followed by my sister drawing a picture of me followed by text that was significantly less menacing.
I’ve been trying to make a playlist of non-traditional Christmas songs, not necessarily modern Christmas songs, just songs that sound like they are about Christmas but actually aren’t. It was harder than I thought. So here is my vaguely Christmas-y, songs that are nice enough for you to play for your parents mix. Playlist Here.

CRITERION CORNER GIVEAWAY!!!!
hey there. it’s been a while since i’ve randomly given stuff away, and that doesn’t jive well with my philosophy that love and / or readership should be shamelessly bought. so in honor of the holiday season - and to make up for lost time / clear my shelf of some extra stuff i’ve got lying around - i thought i’d throw the biggest Criterion Corner giveaway yet.
The Prize:
- DVD of Sidney Lumet’s 12 ANGRY MEN!
- Blu-ray of Claude Chabrol’s LES COUSINS!
- 1 DVD box set of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s THREE COLORS! (opened but never watched and in mint condition… long story)
- 1 MYSTERY DVD!!!! (maybe a Criterion film, maybe just something I want to share with a stranger. definitely previously loved).
TO ENTER: just “like” and / or Re-blog this post. each note will count as a separate entry, so every fellow blogger can therefore submit a maximum total of 2 entries.
giveaway will be closed at 12 P.M. EST on Friday, 12/3/2011. 1 winner will be randomly selected from the notes. so the odds should be okay if not super awesome, but someone’s gonna get some great stuff for nothing.
good luck, and thanks so, so much for reading the blog and my Criterion Corner column on movies.com!
I want that 12 Angry Men DVD! Also, everything.

I’m officially in love with the website science photo library. Do yourself a favor, go to sciencephoto.com and do a search for “SEM” and melt your mind grapes.

WORK OF ART: THE NEXT GREAT ARTIST "Street Dealers" Review

I’m really starting to get into this show, so I figured why not link to the weekly reviews from AV Club. (Although John Teti didn’t write this review, Myles McNutt does a bang up job)

I listened to this album the other day, and while I thought it was just okay, I really enjoyed this song. It sounds much different from the rest of the album and is pretty catchy. The song is “Bajo el Arbol” by Primavera de Praga from the album “Satelite”.
I recently heard this song the other day and I couldn’t put my finger on where I heard it before. I then realized I couldn’t figure out where I heard it because I’ve heard it everywhere. The song is “Daniela” performed by the Fother Muckers (greatest name ever?). The original, as far as I can tell is from the band La Sonora de Tommy Rey. There is also another great version by the band Chico Trujillo, also from Chile, a great cumbia band with tons of energy, enjoy!:
520 days of a simulated trip to Mars in 15 minutes
The crew of Mars 500 just emerged from 520 days of living isolated in a very cramped living space to simulate some of the social and psychological repercussions of the long trip to and from Mars. Of course, it’s not exact, but nothing like this has been attempted before and it’s sort of surprising everyone made it with what appears to be a minimal amount of personal friction.
So, 6 dudes living in a cramped space for 520 days and eating nothing but pre-packaged food is supposed to simulate the voyage to Mars? I thought this was called college?

The first legit drawing I’ve done in years, based on the famous EM photograph of a hookworm. Done with charcoal.
